May weather has chased away the rain at North Woods
and brought white caps back to Lake Winnipesaukee. We can now safely
assume that the ice is gone for good!
Camp now basks in the sunshine which combined with
the strong winds will help the process of drying the newly oiled
Great Hall floor. Mike McCarthy and Jason Rogers completed this
traditional opening of the work season in record breaking fashion.
Steve Pruyne and his New Outlook Teen Group of
volunteers have done a great job with the first cleaning of Founders'
Lodge and brush removal from around the basketball court. Not only did
they get to christen the court this pre-season, but had the good fortune
to spend an evening warming themselves by the campfire while
listening to the loons who have returned to the lake.
The Forestry Patrol welcomes yet another new member
this season as Jonathan DeBay joins the program. Coming off an Adventure
Trip last summer he is looking forward to the challenge.
Loretta and I had the pleasure of dining at Ginny
Hodder's after a slide show presentation in Roxbury. Yet another LIT
from last summer will be on staff as Jeff Hodder continues his family's
long tradition of service to North Woods.
Speaking of family ties to camp, the latest lost alum
to resurface is none other than Chip Roehrig who is enjoying life out in
Colorado in the Fly Fishing Industry. The big news is that he will
be getting married to Barbara Sullivan in June!! He sends his best
wishes to everyone and promises to start planning a trip next
spring for a work weekend or visit during camp.
While we're on that subject, if you are free this
weekend, please consider coming up to camp and helping out!
