January Notes

The holiday season was a busy one indeed! Loretta and I were able to catch up with a number of alumni and only wish that we had more time to visit! Special thanks to Marty and Eileen for opening the Stanton home to us during the crush of the holidays.

Even Camping Services got into the mood with a little bash that included a scrumptious feast, presents and a great deal of hard work using our Craniums!

Thanks to all the alumni and friends of camp who turned out on January 8th in Andover for our first social gathering of the season.

In attendance: Ginny Hodder, Eric Henchey, Loretta Fleurs Goodwin, Paul Hipple, Chris Rillahan, Jeff Hodder, David Liebowitz, Andy Sherman, Steve Dorsey, Keith McCarthy, Jason Rogers, Zack Hurwitz, Joe Dooher, Nat Gordon, Steve Pruyne, Elliott Barry, Rich Sherman, Debbie Rillahan, and David Goodwin.

We are again indebted to Debbie, Chris, Corey, Casey and Kyle Rillahan for being the consummate host family.

Homemade cranberry nut bread, banana bread, carrot cookies (note the healthy theme to counter balance the rest of the options), chocolate chip cookies and frosted cupcakes were quickly snarfed up along with copious quantities of chips, dip and snack foods.

While the majority of Northwoodsmen traded camp stories from the past against a backdrop of the NFL playoffs, there was also plenty of time for serious business.

Goodwin gave his update on off-season news and events while fielding questions from the throng. Some of the points of discussion included:

Following on last year’s successful Reach Out campaign, a greater effort at building camper parent involvement is under way. However, there is still a desperate need for more Alumni campaigners in order to reach our goal.

Speaking of targets, the 2000 staff return forms are due by January 15th so that the new hiring cycle can begin in earnest.

A defense of the peculiar color scheme of the new brochures as a decision pushed by the marketing whizzes more in tune with the MTV generation was offered. Bottom line is that the alumni association can help by distributing them wherever there might be interest in camp.

Assistant Director Keith McCarthy will be leading a focus group on the teen programs at Ponkapoag on Saturday and a report will be presented to the Program Committee.

Although Ted Lane was unable to attend the latest party, the rest of the web gurus unveiled the new site and everyone is urged to hunt for suitable pictures and send in their personal updates.

Finally, thanks to the alumni for hunting down Justin Kennedy Francis, he has finally received his calendar!
