I started at North Woods when I
was 7 as a Junior in Blackfoot and ended at 20 something, as a counselor
in the Sr. Section, (though I've been told I never stopped acting like a
camper).
There are too many people and memories to begin to recount, but the
summers I spent at camp remain among my most cherished, and the
experiences, lessons and values taken from North Woods have shaped much of
my character and still impact my thoughts and decisions to this day.
I think about camp very often, especially around Memorial Day, when I
really yearn to return to NH reunions. My daughter's birth on
Memorial Day 1990, and our move to Michigan have put a damper on these
trips, but my thoughts are always there.
Since camp I have been married to Cindy for 19 fantastic years and have
two spectacular daughters, (Sarah: 14 and Emily: 12). I've
maintained a love for nature and the outdoors and have tried to instill it
in my kids, though not altogether successfully, as an open air shopping
mall will qualify as outdoors to them. But we keep trying, we've
taken several family camping
trips to the southwest, trekking through southern Utah, and hiking, (and
yes, shopping), in Red Rocks country in Sedona, AZ. I've had
more luck with real camping on trips, "with the guys", to
Alaska, the Canadian Rockies on horseback, and whitewater trips on several
rivers in Maine, Colorado, Utah and Canada.
As for everyday life, we relocated to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in July
2002 after 12 years in Upton, MA. An oxymoron of the automotive
business, (19 years with Chrysler, now DaimlerChrysler since the German
acquisition), is that success is rewarded by the opportunity to live in
greater Detroit. (to convince the family we had to tell the kids we
were moving to "Michigan", not to Detroit, which worked for the
first few months anyway).
My current title, the 11th in 19 years, is National Sales Manager for
Fleet and Commercial Sales. The job is dynamic and exciting, as is
the industry, and gives me a great opportunity to travel throughout the
country, and rack up frequent flyer miles and Marriott Reward points, so
it's interesting to read up on where everyone is, as I've been in most of
your areas sometime in the last two years. I'd love to hear from any
old NW friends and recount fond memories.
