One aspect of being a camp director that I have found especially enjoyable is the opportunity to be creative, to construct buildings, develop programs, and make ideas become realities. Some of the changes which have come about during my tenure as director:

1965 – Cherokee built, porch added to Senior Lodge, landscaping of circle at the Farmhouse

1966 – Founders’ Lodge built and dedicated

1967 – Land cleared for four tennis courts

People have made North Woods what it is. It is true that the property, the lake and the mountains have a certain captivating effect on everyone, but the arrival of the staff and the campers in late June each year bring the camp to life. The things that happen during the next two months make the North Woods experience memorable to those involved. We have tried to continue the traditions of North Woods which have found a place in the memory of most people who have been there. Some of these traditions are the Treasure Hunt, the Banquet, Snipe Hunt, Steam Baths, Campfires, the Carnival, and Pine Island trips. We have also thought it essential to have new faces and new ideas to make our environment stimulating and in tune with the ever-changing world. Hence some new ventures such as the Executive Council, Ogunquit Beach trips, Wednesday as the staff day off, and so forth.
