The Heat is On
|
Success! As the fall
temperatures slowly descend there is exciting news to report from our
caretaker Michael McCarthy. The radiant floor heating system that John
Trump helped lay out has undergone its first test and the news is quite
encouraging. Toasty toes for all!!! The days of Glenn Hodgdon having to
work in the barn in sub-zero conditions during the depths of winter are
now a thing of the past.
What this means for the North Woods Alumni association will be just one of
a number of important subjects that will be dealt with at the meeting on Sunday,
November 19th at 2pm. All are invited to come down to the
Camping Offices at 316 Huntington Ave. to participate in an event which
will determine the direction of the association for the next year. Feel
free to call me directly at work or home for details.
There is plenty of exciting news to report about both this summer's
program, the latest on the 2001 budget and the new camp leadership
structure after the departure of Geoff Ball. This is an opportunity for
anyone interested in helping out on ANY level to come by and get a sense
of how much of an impact the alumni have on the camping family.
Topics will
also include:
- Alumni Search:
Thanks to all who have helped track down former campers and staff.
Although we are making steady progress, there is much work left to be
done. If you know of anyone who has not been receiving the camp news and
notes or been made aware of the alumni website at www.ymcacamp.net
please pass the word along! We have created the "Where R U Now"
page so that former campers can get in touch with friends from days gone
by. However, the vast majority of alums have yet to send in updates.
- Events & Reunions:
The Rockport Middle School's production of the Wizard of Oz directed by
our assistant director, Keith McCarthy on Saturday, Dec. 9th will be our
next social event. However, many more events are in the pipeline for next
year. Not only will we be having our second annual London and DC events,
but by popular demand are planning to have an inaugural Tri-State
gathering as well! Even the 75th reunion looms in the
not-to-distant future.
- Newsletters:
Those interested in helping the editors prepare the fall issue of the
Northwoodsman are welcome to stay after the meeting. The Loon Crier is
slated to be sent out after the first of the year. We are always looking
for contributors! Send in your stories, poems, photos, etc.
- Work Weekends: We
will be working on the calendar for the "official" weekends, but
all are invited to visit camp on their own schedule. I will be splitting
time between Boston and the Farmhouse during the off-season. But never
fear, Forestry Patrol leader Andy Sherman is now residing on site and
would welcome a respite from his labors. Please call 603-569-2725 in
advance if you plan to drop by.
Have a great weekend and hope to see many of you on Sunday!
